The castle is great, it's all a bit odd and quirky, but in some ways it makes it fun and exciting. The old style rides and attractions make this a really unique experience.
Gnome land is fun, the gardens are beautiful and the water show is a blast from the past and very patriotic – the staff are great and friendly. Good value food.
Wildlife & Dinosaur Park
Situated very close to Smythen Farm self-catering holiday cottages, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park offers an enjoyable family outing that is both interesting and educational.
The park is home to the famous Wolf Man Shaun Ellis, the man that lived with a wild wolf pack and of TV fame. Other attractions include large life-like dinosaurs that move via hydraulics and pneumatics including a T-rex and dilophosourus (spitting dinosaur ).
You can also swim with sealions, watch falconry displays and meet all the primates. The primates housed are ringtailed lemurs, black and white ruffed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs, Goeldi's monkey, cotton top tamarins and gibbons. Other animals on display include lions and meerkats.
Being so close to Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages, the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park is well worth a visit.
The Big Sheep
The Big Sheep offers lots of attractions both inside and out, so if the weather is poor it is a good option.
The Big Sheep is within 35 minutes drive from Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages and is situated on the A39 Atlantic Highway at Bideford.
The activities outside include dog trials, high ropes, laser guns, pony rides, and the Sheep Grand National. EWEtopia is a large indoor play area including large slides, ball pits and climbing apparatus. Other indoor attractions include a nursery barn, sheep sheering, sheep shows and lamb feeding. The Big Sheep also has a bar and shop. The Big Sheep is well worth a visit whilst staying at Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages.
Exmoor Zoo
Exmoor Zoo is close to Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages, and is an ideal opportunity for children to get a proper understanding of the animals that Exmoor Zoo looks after.
Meeting the animals, handling snakes and spiders, and feeding a wallaby is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Cheetahs, pumas, wolves and the famous Exmoor Beast are among the other attractions at the Zoo.
