Besides its beautiful scenery and tremendous host of fun and varied activities, you can also expect to enjoy the wealth of delicious food that Devon has to offer when you come to stay in the county. You can find a number of fantastic restaurants around North Devon to suit all tastes, making the most of the abundance of fresh local produce available on their doorstep, as well as a number of farmers’ markets offering food as fresh as it can possibly get. Though the four foods below are available across the country, we recommend that you try them during your stay in Devon as you know that you’ll be getting the ‘real deal’ and having an authentic experience enjoying food which Devon and the West Country are famous for: Devonshire cream teas This ultimate Devonian sweet treat, trying one of these during your stay in Devon is an absolute must! The combination of sweet scones, homemade jam and local clotted cream is simply unparalleled and there is nothing quite like enjoying one of these in a quiet café with a simple cup of tea. Fish and chips A favourite across the country, there is nothing like taking a trip out to the North Devon coast and taking in the views of the seafront while enjoying this classic and simple meal. The flavour is further enhanced by the extremely high quality of the locally caught fish which the Devon coast has in abundance. Fudge A sweet treat which is perfect for enjoying as a snack or as a souvenir to take home to family or friends, there really is nothing like the rich, creamy taste of homemade fudge made with Devon clotted cream! Pasties The humble pasty, loved by many, is controversial in its origins, with both Devon and Cornwall claiming that the savoury snack was founded there. Its first recorded recipe was in fact written in Plymouth in 1510, though only pasties made in Cornwall can claim a Protected Destination of Origin. Made with fresh local meat and vegetables, you can be sure to enjoy a tasty, hot pasty anywhere in Devon! You can enjoy all of these ‘delicacies’ a short distance from our holiday cottage complex – Devon in its entirety will be right on your doorstep!
