5 wonderful dog walks around North Devon and Exmoor

5 wonderful dog walks around North Devon and Exmoor With a rise in the availability and popularity of dog friendly holiday cottages, North Devon has become a favourite spot for many holidaymakers to visit along with their four-legged friends. Walking is a popular holiday activity here in Devon, and there are some fantastic walks suitable for humans and dogs alike. Here’s five of our favourites, each with their own breathtaking scenery: Saunton Sands A beach dog-friendly between October and April, Saunton Sands provides a beautiful coastal walk, allowing you and your dog to enjoy the stunning views and, of course, to chase a wave or two! Although it is also popular with families and surfers, this beach will go down a treat with dogs and walkers as you retreat along the coastline to the peaceful Crow Point. Heddon’s Mouth Near the village of Martinhoe, situated on Exmoor, this route really showcases what North Devon and Exmoor have to offer. The route begins in ancient woodland, and follows a stream down the valley to a secluded pebble beach surrounded by sharp, staggering cliffs. Despite the fact the walk follows a valley, this walk is not too demanding and suitable for all. Baggy Point Baggy Point is the stretch of headland at Croyde Beach, and continues onto the coastline towards Bideford Bay and Hartland. It follows part of the South West Coastal Path, meaning it is an easy, accessible walk for all. Owned by the National Trust, the views from the headland are wide-stretching, taking in the sea, cliffs, coastline and the countryside further inland. Lynton and the Valley of the Rocks This route starts from the quaint village of Lynton, a favourite with visitors to the area, and stretches out to the Valley of the Rocks, a valley surrounded by tall, climbable rocks. From here, you can look out to the sea views below. One popular draw to the Valley of the Rocks is the herd of goats that live there, making this walk one to remember. Morte Point Morte Point, like Baggy Point, is another headland, ending with sharp cliffs which continue down to the jagged rocks just above the water’s surface. You can walk out to this point from the nearby village of Mortehoe, with the route taking you through acres of rarely seen heathland, carpeted in heather and gorse. This walk also branches out to the hidden beaches of Lee and Rockham Bay.
