GoldCoast Oceanfest is back for a 16th year in Croyde bay this weekend. The surf, sport and music festival, which was first held in 1999, takes place over the summer solstice weekend this year at its base in Limekiln Field, Croyde – just a five minute drive from our North Devon holiday cottages. With a stellar line up, including festival favourite Newton Faulkner, set to head to North Devon the festival is sure to be yet another huge success. He headlines a line-up that includes Jack Savoretti, Nina Nesbitt, Sam Fender, Chloe Howl, Sunset Sons, Amber Run, Josh Record, Ruarri Joseph and Mason Jennings. With 12 sports, including beach football, volleyball, skateboarding, surfing and an ironman, taking place, and music on offer all weekend, the festival is going to be a hit with sport and music fans. But it’s also likely to prove as popular as ever with families on farm holidays in Devon for children, since the festival fulfils an educational brief. Friday at GoldCoast is schools day and the festival focuses on teaching youngsters about the environment and encouraging them to get involved with the great outdoors. Children in North Devon have the opportunity to access what could possibly be described as one of the best playgrounds in the country – the area’s amazing beaches. Not all of them take advantage of these beaches and fewer get involved to ensure these ‘playgrounds’ remain intact and in a condition that hopefully can be enjoyed by their children. The festival aims to encourage youngsters to do just that and realise the potential of getting involved in a ‘beach lifestyle’. In addition the festival runs childrens problem-solving relay challenges, beach flags races, drum workshops, skate and BMX demonstrations, interactive workshops and talks and presentations from organisations including the RNLI, South West Water and the Coast and Countryside Agency. So for an educational weekend out with the kids, and great music and sports – why not head to GoldCoast?
