One of Barnstaple’s longest-established bike shops has officially unveiled their newest edition- a café – located in Barnstaple’s town Square. The Bike Shed’s café opened on Sunday 12 April, and offered coffee and snacks to the growing number of cyclists who are making the most of the fantastic cycling routes near our holiday cottages in North Devon by the sea. The Bike Shed events manager Marcus Chapman spoke to the North Devon Journal on Sunday and said: “A lot of bike cafés have been springing up and we’ve thought Barnstaple could do with one for a while. “Coffee and cycling go well together – lots of people set off for a cycle with a place in mind to stop for a coffee.†Marcus added that the café was filled with cyclists of all ages, including club members from across the county. “It was a great atmosphere and I think people enjoyed being somewhere which combines coffee and cycling, and a place they can feel comfortable in their Lycra. “The location is where a lot of people start and finish their routes.†The Bike Shed Café serves locally sourced coffee, cakes and bagels with fillings including salmon and cream cheese and pastrami. So if you are out for a ride while you’re here on holiday and find yourself feeling peckish or have a hankering for a coffee then you can head to the coolest new coffee shop around!
