A fun run with a festive twist running for the first time ever has been a recent success for local charity North Devon Hospice, with over 150 runners taking part. The Chase the Elf race saw a number of festively dressed runners chase the elf, Bideford AAC’s Dan Mapp, 24, on a ten mile route from Bideford to Barnstaple, with just three of the runners managing to pass him by the time they reached the finish. There was also a shorter route available, known at the Tinsel Run – a 3km route more suitable for families and youngsters to take part in. Both races finished at Barnstaple Football Club, where The Voice radio were playing Christmas songs to bring the Christmas spirit and spur on the support of the crowds that had gathered to watch the runners arrive at the finish line. The race is a fantastic example of community spirit at Christmas time and is just one of the many things going on in North Devon throughout the year.
