It’s recently been announced that the 2015 British National Surf Championships are set to be held at a renowned beach close to Smythen Farm’s North Devon family holidays! Home to one of the world’s best breaks on its day, Croyde Bay will play host to the event thanks largely to the huge recognition the location gets for being one of the top surf spots in the UK, and the arrival of these elite surfers will only boost the plaudits. The British National Surf Championships is proudly seen as the flagship event in the surfing calendar which can be found dating back some 50+ years, to the 1960s, and this month, on September 26th, visitors will see the sports best from all over the UK arrive in Croyde to battle it out. Surfing GB Operations Manager, Nick Rees, said: "The event is a highlight for competitive surfing within the UK and serves to showcase the wealth of talent we have, extending from our very youngest guns to the old guard, all of whom shred and are the very definition of what British competitive surfing is all about.” "Two days of highly-focused and passionate surfing in all divisions will culminate in the crowning of champions and the awarding of the most prestigious title – the British champion.” The event will certainly be something that the whole family can get involved in, and with some fantastic tricks set to be performed on the tasty waves expected to roll in, why wouldn’t you want to see what’s on offer? Keen surfing fans will be hoping to see some low tide barrels, and the host of local North Devon surfers will be aiming to capitalise on the inside knowledge of this surf spot to get the edge on the other competitors – in particular Woolacombe’s Lucy Campbell, who is the current UK women’s National Surf Champ. The event is usually held in the neighbouring county of Cornwall, at the famous location of Newquay but Mr Rees went on to confirm the national champs will now be staged at a new location every year. He added: "Surfing GB is passionate in embracing forgotten traditions and vows to host the event at a new location every year from here on." For more information on the event go to: Surfing GB.
