Don’t miss the Clovelly Lobster and Crab Feast!

What better way to enjoy holiday cottages in North Devon by the sea than to experience Clovelly once again welcoming the celebrations and festivities that come thanks to its famous lobsters and crabs sustainably caught by its fishermen. This is a wonderful day out for all the family, with a jam-packed events list not to be missed! You can look forward to a whole array of live music, as well as interesting demonstrations from top local chefs, lots of regional food and craft stalls, featuring plenty of freshly cooked lobsters and crabs (as you’d expect), and you can quench your thirst too, as there’s plenty of beer tasting to be had! September 6th is the date, so get it in your diaries as you won’t want to miss this wonderful example of local produce being celebrated just how it should! Children can be kept entertained with the event-themed craft activities, walkabout magic, street theatre, and balloon modelling, all kindly provided by The National Trust. The reason the people of Clovelly go to all the effort of hosting this event is to show their support for the National Lobster Hatchery, Padstow, who will be in attendance, exhibiting some of their baby lobsters prior to their release into Clovelly Bay at the end of the day. The NLH is proud to run a successful lobster restocking project which sees local fishermen bring pregnant female lobsters to the hatchery in order for their delicate offspring to be given a better chance. They do this by raising them in captivity instead of in the wild so that they are not left vulnerable to predators. Once the little lobsters are raised to a size where they can take care of themselves they are released into the wild again. For more information on the NHL go to: www.nationallobsterhatchery.co.uk/.
