With our Berrynarbor holiday cottages being the perfect place to stay for families, we’d thought we’d list some of the top attractions which children and adults alike will enjoy. North Devon is packed full of fun things to do, whether the weather is sunny or you’re better off staying indoors.
Tarka TrailStretching 30 miles at its full length across Devon, the 6 mile stretch from Braunton to Barnstaple is perfect for a family bike ride, and is close to our holiday cottages. Along the way you’ll ride side by side by side with the River Taw, taking in the views of the surrounding countryside bridging the gap between the towns. There are also plenty of cafes and picnic sites along the way, so that you can enjoy a bite to eat or relax with a drink.
Exmoor ZooA more laid-back and natural environment than any city zoo, here the critters roam freely in their conservation zones, and visitors have a chance to get up close and personal with some of the animals, including snakes and spiders. Alongside other animals such as otters, wallabies, lemurs and lynx, the highlight of the Zoo is the legendary world-famous ‘Exmoor Beast’, a black leopard said to be spotted prowling through the moors.
Lynton and LynmouthSituated on the edge of Exmoor National Park, Lynton and Lynmouth are neighbouring villages home to both rolling moors and towering sea cliffs. For truly spectacular views, head over to the Valley of the Rocks and soak up the beauty. Both villages are full of quaint shops and cafes for you to enjoy, and a trip to Lynton and Lynmouth wouldn’t be the same without a ride on the cliff railway, taking you 300m up the cliffs via a Victorian water-powered lift.
The Big SheepA fun day out for all ages, these sheep-themed park is packed with unusual activities. Nowhere else would you expect to witness sheep-racing, lamb feeding, horse whispering and border collies rounding up ducks all in one place!
