A former Formula One photographer has returned to North Devon and started creating beautiful footage of the area, by using aerial drone filming. The four man team Altitude58 is led by Chris Catullo, who has returned to the South West after working on digital content in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for Formula One. Chris was inspired to create his videos after witnessing aerial filming drones in the United Arab Emirates, but has noted that the South West is a much better to film, as there are so many places to fly the drone. For those who are unsure, a drone is an aircraft that does not feature a human pilot, and is often controlled by a remote control. The drone can then survey the ground from above, resulting in stunning footage of natural beauty below. The team can also do ground filming, photography and create 3D maps of areas. Currently, they are mapping 1,500 acres of Braunton Burrows, where a 3D image is lined up against a Google Maps image, to show what has changed since Google mapped the area. This is then turned into a 3D model of the land. Footage of beautiful North Devon, including aerial shots close to our Croyde cottages can be seen in the video below, along with many other areas of the South West. If this doesn’t make you want to visit the area, we don’t know what will! Image courtesy of Altitude58 Visit North Devon video on YouTube.
