North Devon has long been a honeymoon hotspot for young lovebirds who’ve just married. That’s been proved again this week as a young couple who spent time in the area to celebrate their recent nuptials has made the news. Unfortunately they’ve hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, after newlywed husband Andrew Jephcote lost his wedding ring on Croyde Beach. The couple actually come from North Devon and live within a few miles of our Ilfracombe holiday cottages, but love the area so much they opted to honeymoon at home. Sadly their honeymoon took a turn for the worse when they took a trip to Croyde beach, also just a short trip from Smythen Farm. The pair’s happiness at being recently married was dampened when they realised, part way through their day at the beach, that Andrew had lost his wedding band in the sand. Faced with a “needle in a haystack” search the couple frantically searched the area where Andrew thought he had lost the ring, but were unable to locate it, despite using a metal detector. Wife Sara explained to the North Devon Journal how Andrew had realised the ring was missing after taking a dip in the brilliantly blue sea. “We knew he’d been wearing it just before going swimming,” she said, “but no idea when it came off his finger.” She said they had a rough idea where he may have lost the ring though and set about searching. After a half hour fingertip search the pair hired a metal detector but were still unable to find the ring. Even after calling in friends and spending hours searching an area of three football pitches the couple drew a blank and are now appealing for help. So if you find a white gold wedding band on Croyde beach during your holiday in North Devon please hand it in at the lifeguard hut. 3.7.14
