Choo choo! The local volunteers at the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway have finally announced the plans for a £16 million expansion of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway line over the weekend, and they’re hoping everyone will be on board with their thrilling new idea! Officially announced on Saturday 18 April, the exciting new plans will outline the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Trust's ambitious intentions to extend the railway by four miles to popular attraction, Wistlandpound Reservoir. The trust have also included restoring the railway stations at Blackmoor and Parracombe, as well as creating an engineering centre and rolling-stock sheds at Blackmoor Gate, into the plans for the extended line. The works would cost an estimated cost of £16 million for the project and could create up to 100 jobs in the area. As a result, although the plans have not yet been shown to the public, they have already generated significant support from local councillors, businesses and landowners, and would provide an appealing attraction for visitors to our farm holidays in Devon. At present the line crosses a mile of Exmoor countryside between Woody Bay Station and Killington Lane, and in 2014 alone, welcomed more than 46,000 visitors.
