North Devon man plans Atlantic rowing record attempt
A man from near to Smythen Farm is set to try and beat the World record for trans-Atlantic rowing. Jeremy Webb is from Barnstaple and hopes to become a World record holder along with the other crew members of the Toby Wallace boat. Jeremy will be heading off from Gran Canaria next month with seven other rowers as they aim to row across the ocean in fewer than 32 days. The 43-year-old got involved in the challenge after receiving an invitation by email from the organisers, then interviewing for a place on the team. Jeremy’s team will be taking on the challenge in a 35 foot long boat called the Toby Wallace. He’ll take turns with the rest of the team to row 24 hours a day and sleep in the small cabin on board. The Ilfracombe Pilot Gig Club member says he’s looking forward to the challenge, but most of all is looking forward to seeing the UK coast, and Ilfracombe holiday cottages, on his return. “We’ll be racing another boat,” he said, “which will be better motivation than just racing the clock. “But the best motivation will be the desire to see home again.” To sponsor Jeremy visit his fundraising page.
