Meet Rajan, the world’s last swimming elephant
Although he weighs an enormous four tonnes, Rajan the Asian elephant loves nothing more than swimming in the sea, with incredible photographs showing him looking completely weightless as he moves through the ocean. These brilliant photos were taken by Brazilian photographer Cristian Dimitrius, 39, who specialises in underwater photography. Taken in the Bay of Bengal, just off from the Andaman Islands near the west coast of Myanmar (Burma), Rajan appears to be posing for the photos as he swims through the clear blue water. The 63 year old elephant is believed to be the last ever swimming elephant, and featured in the movie ‘The Fall’. He is currently retired from his previous work carrying loads and clearing local forests, spending the majority of his time relaxing on the beach. To supplement their income, the owners are often paid for Rajan to enjoy a swim with divers who travel from all over the world for the experience.
