The strong representation at this year’s British Travel Awards from the Westcountry’s tourist resorts and holiday businesses will be buoyed by the fact that they are being tipped for a night of success when the polls are in, as it is thought they will sweep up at the prestigious awards night. In terms of competition, the only regions who could cause an upset for Devon and Cornwall in the Best UK Holiday County category is from Pembrokeshire and Northumberland. Our very own Woolacombe, just down the road from Smythen Farm’s Devon cottages with pool facilities, and Bude will be doing battle with Bournemouth and the Welsh contingent of Tenby for the title of Best UK Coastal Resort. When speaking to the Western Morning News, Rachel Zeale, manager of Woolacombe Tourism Information Centre, said: "It's great to receive recognition for our beautiful beach. "We have already won the Tripadvisor UK's number one beach earlier this year as well as claiming fourth in Europe and 13th in the world, which is a fantastic accolade. "Woolacombe is a lovely community to live and work in. Everyone pulls together to ensure that we offer a wide variety of facilities that make a great holiday destination. "The Trust owns much of the land around Woolacombe and works hard to keep its natural beauty and wildlife accessible to all." Cast your vote before September 30. The results will be announced at the BTA gala awards dinner held in London on November 25. Image: Jon Barton under Creative Commons.
