Family Friendly Holiday Cottages

Family friendly holidays are a large part of the key to our success at Smythen Farm.  We have designed the whole farm around what we consider to be ideal for a family holiday. As parents of 4 young children aged between 4 and 12, we have been able to get a good idea as to what children enjoy in a safe friendly environment.

The play area is designed around making the activities as wide ranged as possible. We have games that toddlers will enjoy and a games room for older/teenage children.  We have a range of family friendly holiday activities, such as the enclosed swimming pool, pony riding, sheep and pig walking as well as two really friendly donkeys who enjoy people's company. All of the attractions and activities are based around making your family holiday a holiday to remember.

The cottages are family friendly, with the use of quality, robust and comfortable furniture.  The cottages all have baths as well as showers, and the majority also have full central heating.  Stair gates, cots and highchairs are readily available, as well as flat screen TVs, DVDs and Wi-Fi. We hope that our Smythen Farm self-catering accommodation is a home from home, offering the ideal family-friendly holiday base.

Family-friendly activities that really make a holiday to remember are:

Pony rides – We offer complimentary pony rides twice a week (weather permitting). This is a real family favourite - in a lot of cases, the pony rides at Smythen Farm are the first time children have the opportunity to ride a pony.  The children really enjoy the pony rides, and this is an ideal opportunity to meet other families who are staying with us.
The games area is also designed around the family. We have table tennis, a pool table, table football and darts for the older children. The  younger children have a wooden play kitchen and shop, as well as an outside area including play houses, slides, a sand pit, tree house with a slide and a trampoline.

The swimming pool is another family favourite; the pool is heated and is available from Easter through to the October half term. The pool is covered so that it can be used in all weathers and is a family friendly attraction at Smythen Farm.

Location is also important to a really enjoyable family holiday. If you are considering a holiday in Devon, then Smythen Farm holiday cottages are ideally located for your family-friendly holiday. It is situated slap bang between the beautiful golden sandy beaches that are renowned at Croyde, Saunton Sands, Putsborough and Woolacombe and the beautiful wonderful walking country of Exmoor.  Smythen Farm is also well situated for all of the attractions in North Devon. Watermouth Castle, which is 2 ½ miles away, is a wonderful quirky day out (n.b. go early in your holiday, and at the end of the day get the additional family pass for £2.50 and then enter for £1.60 each at a later date). The Big Sheep and the Milky Way, Clovelly and Lynton and Lynmouth are all within 40 minutes, with the Ilfracombe Aquarium, Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and the Wistlandpound Reservoir all within 15 minutes' drive.

The other family-friendly aspect to Smythen Farm holiday cottages is that if you are considering coming away with friends, you can either hire 2 separate cottages or you could hire Meadow Sweet, which accommodates 10 people. If you would like to come away with parents, they could hire a small cottage such as HoneyPot or Primrose Lane, and the main family could hire one of the family-sized cottages, thus offering a family holiday in the same location but with the opportunity to have your own space.

All in all we believe that with the location, facilities and quality of the accommodation, Smythen Farm is the best family friendly holiday location Devon has to offer.

Lovely stay at Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages hosted by Bill and his farm animals. The kids loved it - especially the upside down cottage. Thanks for a lovely stay in beautiful North Devon.

We stayed here for the May half term, in Honeysuckle cottage. There was plenty of space for two adults and two kids, the kitchen was well equipped and there was even a washing machine (very useful when you have two little boys!). The cottage faced the courtyard (the swimming pool). Some of the cottages face onto the field, so have an amazing view. The farm is lovely, there are animals to feed, a small heated and covered swimming pool, playground and play room. Kids

Many thanks to all at Smythen Farm – we stayed in Fisherswood Cottage for a 4 night stay on 16th March. We found the cottage really well laid out and very comfortable. The location for visiting North Devon is as good as you could get. A great break.

My wife and I have just returned from a week`s holiday in Honey Pot cottage at Smythen Farm and enjoyed every minuet of our stay. Despite it being the middle of march and the wind blowing full force outside the cottage was lovely and warm. It was well appointed clean and had all we needed to make our stay perfect. Despite dropping in on spec on a Sunday afternoon we were greeted with a friendly welcome from our host and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. In the h
