Places of interest in the area include: Woolacombe, Croyde, Putsborough and Saunton (for miles of golden sands); Barnstaple has a large shopping centre, leisure centre, night spots, and is famous for its Pannier Market. Ilfracombe has a new theatre, cinema, amusements and an indoor swimming pool.

There is a good 18-hole golf course 2 miles from Ilfracombe on the Combe Martin road. Lynton and Lynmouth (with its unique cliff railway) are some 22 miles distant. Coarse and Trout fishing is available at Ilfracombe Reservoir. Boat trips to Lundy Island and South Wales from the Pier at Ilfracombe. Hire a bike and ride the Tarka Trail.
