North Devon Beaches

Smythen Farm’s coastal cottages by the sea are close to some of the UK and Europe’s best beaches, many of which have reached award winning standards.

All the beaches in the area have good nearby facilities, shallow waters for youngsters to enjoy, surf for extreme sport enthusiasts and clear water for those who enjoy other water sports like sailing or canoeing. The vast expanses of sand also make them perfect for people who just want to enjoy a stroll on the beach.

Sandy Bay

Sandy Bay beach near Ilfracombe in North Devon

The closest and our favourite beach is Sandy Bay only 2.5 miles away from Smythen Farm Holiday Cottages. It is the most picturesque looking beach it could be in the West Indies or in The Indian Ocean. The sand is slate colored but is fine enough for children making sand castles etc. It has rock pools ideal for children to spend hours with a net, the outlook is beautiful and best of all it is not used by many people. The only down side is that it has 244 steps going down to it and it is decent workout on the return leg but it is well worth it.

Toilets are not available but there is ample parking at the top of the path down to the beach.

Many thanks to all at Smythen Farm – we stayed in Fisherswood Cottage for a 4 night stay on 16th March. We found the cottage really well laid out and very comfortable. The location for visiting North Devon is as good as you could get. A great break.

My wife and I have just returned from a week`s holiday in Honey Pot cottage at Smythen Farm and enjoyed every minuet of our stay. Despite it being the middle of march and the wind blowing full force outside the cottage was lovely and warm. It was well appointed clean and had all we needed to make our stay perfect. Despite dropping in on spec on a Sunday afternoon we were greeted with a friendly welcome from our host and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. In the h

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay in Sunalways Cottage, Smythen Farm. The cottage was well decorated and furnished and the vaulted ceilings gave the cottage a really spacious feeling. The views from the cottage were stunning, on 3 or 4 occasions we could see Swansea on the other side of the Bristol Channel clearly. We also enjoyed the walking in Exmore - The Valley of the Rocks and the walk to Heddons mouth were our favourites. We look forward to
