Learn to Surf on Holiday in North Devon

There's plenty to do for families on holiday at Smythen Farm North Devon holiday cottages. We can personally recommend some excellent walks, bike rides and local attractions.

For those looking for something a little different, why not learn to surf at our local surf school in Westward Ho.

The North Devon Surf School

The North Devon Surf School have taught people to surf from every walk of life, ability and all fitness levels, not to mention age variations.

But the common factor is fun. Yes, fun. You will learn to surf quicker and easier if you just relax and have fun!

Literally thousands of people have learnt to stand up and ride a wave after a couple of lessons with their unique coaching technique that works.

Lessons are in small groups so you can learn at your own pace and we get to spend lots of time with each person.

Westward Ho! has the European blue flag award for clean water and is patrolled by the RNLI lifeguards. The surf school is situated at the Westward Ho! end of the beach at the Burrows entrance, this is actually a country park with a golf course and lots of parking and picnic space.

The experienced surfers tend to head off to the more powerful waves of Croyde, Woolacombe and Newquay... brilliant!

Courses and Lessons

All courses / lessons are suitable for complete beginners, and all the equipment is supplied. Our lesson times vary each day to find the most suitable conditions, please feel free to call us for approximate times. All the equipment for your lessons is provided, all of our equipment is brand new every season and of a very high quality. If you wish to use your own equipment then please check with your instructor prior to the lesson that it's suitable!

1. Half day = 1 x 2 hour lesson: £30 per person
A great introduction to the basics of surfing. Approximately 20 mins of beach training followed by 90 mins of surfing.
2. The Full day = 2 x 2 hour lessons: £55 per person
An introduction to the basics of surfing, plus extra water time and coaching to improve your surfing.
3. The Flexi Three = 3 x 2 hour lessons: £80 per person
Great for the weekend break, surf all day Saturday and Sunday morning. Learning all the basics plus a chance to try out some different boards.
4. The Flexi Four = 4 x 2 hour lessons : £100 per person
Great for the mid-week break, surf every morning or two full days, a great way to progress.
5. The Flexi Five = 5 x 2 hour lessons: £115 per person
Great for the week-long holiday. Surf every morning or afternoon. We cover everything you need to know to become a safe, competent surfer.
6. The Flexi Six = 6 x 2 hour lessons: £130 per person
Ideal for families during the summer holidays. Six lessons to be taken whenever. Healthy, educational and fun and we promise to wear them out for you! Why not join in as well Mum and Dad?
7. The Flexi Ten = 10 X 2 hour lessons: £190 per person
Ideal for families on holiday and locals. 10 lessons to be taken whenever. Healthy, educational and fun and we promise to wear you out!
8. Private lessons = 1 x 2 hour lesson: £85 one person + £25 per extra person.
You will have your own senior surfing coach working exclusively with you to maximise your skill level. Suitable for complete beginners to competent surfers.
9. Stand Up Paddleboarding = 1 x 2 hour lesson: £85 one person + £25 per extra person
Private lessons, suitable for complete beginners and we will take you to a suitable river/beach environment for maximum enjoyment.

Private Lessons

You'll have your own Senior coach working with you at your own pace and skill level. Lessons can be booked for any time to suit your schedule from 8am to 6pm. Lessons are based on 2 hours of coaching time. Suitable for complete beginners to advanced. All equipment supplied.

£85 for one person, £25 for each additional person.

Stand Up Paddleboarding.

Suitable for complete beginners and we will take you to a suitable river/beach environment for maximum enjoyment.

Lessons can be booked for any time to suit your schedule from 8am to 6pm. Lessons are based on 2 hours of coaching time. Suitable for complete beginners to advanced. All equipment supplied.
